The story of Chhatarpur Temple, Delhi
Chhatarpur Temple, also known as Shree Adya Katyayani Shaktipeeth Mandir was founded by a Saint Shree Durga- Charan-anuragi Baba Sant Nagpal in 1974. Legend says, Baba lost his parents at a very early age and at the time of cremation of his mother, an unknown lady took the grieving Baba to the adjacent Temple of Mother Goddess. She told Baba that She was the real universal Mother who would always remain with him.
Two forms of Goddess Durga are commemorated at the Chhatarpur Temple. The first shrine is dedicated to Maha Gauri (Eighth form of Nav Durga). The Maha Gauri shrine is opened for ‘darshan’ every day. The second shrine is dedicated to Maa Katyayani. Devotees can pay ‘darshan’ to Goddess Katyayani throughout the days of Navratri or Durga Puja.
The idol of Katyayani Devi is always festooned in red clothes, precious jewelry and heavy garland of flowers. Chhatarpur Temple is one of the most visited Temple of Maa Durga, during the time of Navratri.
Lord Hanuman - Chhatarpur Temple
The main attraction of Chhatarpur Temple is the golden image of Maa Katyayani and two rooms dedicated to Maa Katyayani. The idol of Maa Katyayani is huge in size and reflects sheer divinity. There are two rooms that are known as Goddess’ rooms. The first room is the living room and the other room is the Shayan Kaksha or the Bed Room. The tables, chairs, bed, dressing table and every single thing in the rooms are carved in Gold and silver.
There are several other shrines dedicated to Lord Shiva, Lord Ganesha, Radha-Krsihna and Lord Rama. A massive orange colored idol of Lord Hanuman, 101 feet high Hanuman Murti is located adjacent to the main temple.
